PIKE TO PLACERVILLE: Sweet Betsy and Ike on the California Trail
PIKE TO PLACERVILLE: Sweet Betsy and Ike on the California Trail
by Magaret Batt
Travel west with two of folk song's best-loved characters, Betsy and Ike, as they set forth from Pike County, Missouri to the California gold fields. “Pike to Placerville” provides a wonderful opportunity to teach across the curriculum, combining history, geography, music, dance, drama, art and Social Studies. Both cast and audience will become involved in the long wagon train journey along the Overland Trail to California. Nine traditional songs are featured. An audio CD is included.
HISTORICAL MUSICAL PLAYS
Music and Classroom Teachers: Your students will thoroughly enjoy Calicanto's musical plays. Each play includes enough parts for the entire class. These delightful scripts are designed for fourth grade students and feature the traditional songs, games and dances of specific periods in history. This is a perfect way to teach across the curriculum. All plays were revised in 2007 by Karen Arlen with accessible layout provided by Nancie Kester.
